Tadeush Gavin: The Persecution Of The Polish Activists Has Gone On

On the 4th of April in the consulate-general of the Republic of Poland in Brest city a traditional official meeting of diplomats with the representatives of the City-on-Bug (the poetic name of Brest which is situated on the river Bug) took place. At the meeting the participants discussed the questions concerned the polish diaspore in Belarus.
The members of the Union of Poles - an unacknowledged by the Belarusian authorities organization –participated in the meeting. Among them were Alina Jarashevich, Anzhalika Borys, Tadeush Gavin and the representatives of the civic initiatives, catholic priests and journalists.
The former head of the organization and its founder Tadeush Gavin presented a book “The Union of Poles. The History of the destroying of the Independence in Belarus 1988-2005.” He noted that the present situation in Belarus reminds him of the early days of the organization, the end of 80s, when it had been founded – the same pressure from the authorities and persecution of the activists.
The meetings like this have become the traditional ones and they are organized on the eve of the great religious holidays.
